2013 NCC Parade & Family Festival
On Saturday September 21st New Community Corporation held their 30th Annual Advocacy Parade and Family Festival. The Parade began at 12 noon as participants marched down South Orange Avenue from Bergen Street (past a reviewing stand occupied by NCC Founder Monsignor Linder and NCC Leadership) to Jones Street and up 14th Avenue to Bedford Street. Participants included the Weequahic High School Marching Band, A Mariachi Group, a Drum and Bugle Corp, a Mexican Dance Troupe, several Colorful Floats created by the various NCC Departments, and many of our NCC Residents and Employees marching. The streets were lined with many spectators.The Family Festival began immediately after the Parade on Hayes Street, 14th Avenue and Bedford Street. Hayes Street was lined with several Vendors selling everything from tasty treats like, Jerk Chicken, Ribs, Fish , Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Fried Oreos, Funnel Cakes , cakes and pies and more, plus merchandise like, jewelry, clothing, cds, dvds, pocketbooks, handbags and T Shirts were for sale. There was even an outdoor Beer Garden that sold Beer and Wine. All of this while listening and dancing to the Beats of the famous "DJ Qua".
On Bedford Street was a designated "Children's Zone" which included Bouncy Houses, a Rock Climbing Wall, Pony Rides, Face Painting, their own DJ, a Video Game Truck, Games, Arts and Crafts, free Hot Dogs, Sodas and Snacks. Clowns also helped out with the festivities by entertaining the children with balloons. The Newark Fire Department also joined in on the fun! Several Informational and Health Tables lined up on 14th Ave to provide valuable information to Festival Participants including Blood Pressure readings.
It was a beautiful day and a fun time was had by everyone in a completely safe environment.
