2014 St. Patrick’s Day Parade
This Friday, March 14th at 1pm, the tradition of Newark's 79th annual St. Patrick's Day parade will paint the downtown streets green. The parade is lead by the Grand Marshal Dr. John A. Brennan, President and CEO of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and the Children's Hospital of NJ, and Deputy Grand Marshal Marion O'Neill, Manager of Corporate Contributions at PSEG. The Parade is dedicated to Rev Deacon Francis McQuade, Professor of Law Emeritus at Seton Hall Law School, former Essex County Counsel and Counsel Emeritus of the Parade Committee.The Day includes many aspects including spiritual, youth and education, cultural and local spirits! Here's the itinerary:
9:15am - Mass at St. Patrick's Pro Cathedral (91 Washington Street)
Memorial Mass for deceased members and Investiture of the Grant Marshal and Deputy Grand Marshal.
10:30am - "What We can Learn from the Experience of Irish Immigrants" at Newark Public Library
Fr. Augustine Curley will be presenting to students of the Archdiocese
1pm - Parade steps off from Prudential Center on Mulberry Street
The parade route starts at the PruCenter goes down Mulberry past NJPAC, up Central Avenue to the Newark Museum and Washington Park. The Parade includes a high school band competition featuring some of New Jersey's top high school bands.
Along the route, there is a mix of Irish pubs and restaurants that are involved in the mix including: The Monk Room, Brick City Bar and Grill, Edison Ale House, NICO Kitchen, McGovern's, 27 Mix, Broad Street Café, Martini 494 Bistro and post-party at Kilkenny Alehouse. So get your green on and bundle up to cheer on dance troupes, marching bands, bag pipers and more through the city and celebrate NJ's first St. Patrick's Day Parade!
