SCHOLARSHIPS


Newark Housing Authority Scholarship
Newark Housing Authority has a scholarship for college bound seniors who are a Newark public housing resident or participate in the housing choice voucher program administered by the NHA by September 2014. Deadline is March 10, 2015.

Dawn Y. Reddick Education Scholarship
Two $1000 scholarships for Arts High alumni, Dawn Y. Reddick, for a Newark HS Senior. Dawn was both a scholar and a phenomenal educator, who's life was lost due to gang violence in 2011. Deadline is May 31, 2015.

Newark Sisters in Service Scholarship Award
Two scholarships for Newark women pursuing higher education, who exhibit a history and passion for service to the Newark community. One to a High School senior and another for a current undergraduate, must be a Newark resident and a graduate of a Newark high school. Deadline is April 15, 2015.

Sadie Nash's Summer Institute
Sadie Nash Leadership Project is an innovative educational program that promotes leadership, service and activism among young women in high school in Newark (ages 14-21). The program is completely free and young women receive a weekly stipend to cover transportation and food costs based on attendance. They are seeking applicants in the 9th - 12th grades to participate in six week Summer Institute which runs from July 6th - August 14th, every Monday through Friday, 10am-4:30pm at Rutgers-Newark. The Summer Institute is an opportunity for young women to take a look at their own leadership, their potential leadership, and the leadership of others while developing a strong community of female peers. Young women will meet inspiring women leaders, attend challenging academic and creative courses, and learn in a safe, dynamic, diverse and supportive environment. Multimedia, Music and Film Program
Essex County College, Training Inc and Cobblestone Multimedia present a course designed to serve students who plan to enter the workforce in the Multimedia, music and film industries. This program includes studio operation, recording, introduction to MIDI & Pro Tools, the Marketing Mix, customer service, computer literacy, business math and job preparedness. The curriculum will also include hands on projects and an apprenticeship in a Professional Recording Studio. It's a 12 week program beginning March 9th. Free and stipend available.
Prerequisite: 8th Grade Level in TABE Testing (Testing provided at registration)
Newark resident, between ages of 16-24

Free College Theatre Program
For Newark Public School Students in grades 9-12. The students participate in college level theatre classes where they have the opportunity to write and perform their own plays. Students, also, have the opportunity to work side by side with professional actors and playwrights while enrolled in the program. There will be field trips to a professional theatre production and resumé building workshops. Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays from 4pm-6pm at The Marion A.
