2015 Newark Saint Patrick’s Parade
Yesterday a green line was painted down Mulberry Street with Mayor Baraka and Parade delegates to prepare for the annual St. Patrick's Parade in Newark. This Friday, WEAR GREEN and get downtown to celebrate the oldest Irish parade in NJ! There are no excuses - it's going to be a warm, sunny day. The Newark Parade is celebrating 80 years! The parade starts at 1pm from the Prudential Center and makes it way through downtown on Mulberry Street past Military Park, NJPAC, Washington Park and St. Patrick's Pro Cathedral. The Grand Marshal is Rosemarie Mellody, Deputy Grand Marshal is Rev. Patrick Donohue and dedicated to the late Raymond M. Durkin. The parade includes a high school band competition.
The Parade is rich in history - composed of delegates from nearly 100 Irish, Fraternal, Catholic and Public Safety organizations as well as other civic, social and athletic organizations.
The month-long celebration includes Heritage Nights at NJPAC and Prudential Center. They also involve a student element with elementary students competing in an art contest and high school students in an essay contest on the life of Saint Patrick.
