Better Block Bergen Street is Saturday
Better Block: Newark at Bergen Street is finally here tomorrow, June 6. It takes a city to make a block alive and it all comes together tomorrow (learn more about the Better Block Movement from our last article). The event will be from 12-6pm on Bergen Street from Lyons to Lehigh Avenue.
The event includes a pop-up restaurant by La Rouge and a wine tasting.
There will be a ton of activities for kids like Bricks 4 Kidz with some Lego activities, Face Painting by Postively Publishing Kids, pop-up library and story time, splash pool, double dutch and more.
The Bike Exchange and the Brick City Bike Collective will have bike rentals available and United Cycle will host bike tours through Weequahic Park.
A new mural now is a part of the streetscape along with new trees. Arts will be represented with WBGO doing a pop-up jazz gallery with WBGO playing in the background. Newark Print Shop will have their Pop-up print shop and Akintola Hanif will have an outdoor photo exhibit.
There will be parcels (mini parks) with benches made by students and volunteers and greenery on load from the Greater Newark Conservancy as well as their Youth Stand selling free vegetables and fruits. There will be a large scale street chess board to play.
And since June 6th is the National Day of Civic Hacking, there will be a mini TechPark with free wi-fi.
The day has the energy of the city behind it. Stop by... it's free and open to all!
