Black Film Festival Call for Entries
The Newark Black Film Festival (NBFF) at the Newark Museum is the longest longest-running black film festival in the United States. It is seeking entries from filmmakers for the 2012 edition of the biennial Paul Robeson Awards. The prestigious competition, established in 1985, honors the spirit of Paul Robeson, the renowned activist, performer and athlete. The submission deadline for filmmakers is Friday, February 24, 2012.
Original "independent" films released since January 2010 that are considered non-commercial will be eligible for the competition. Filmmakers must have had control of the completed work. Winners of the Paul Robeson Awards 2012 will receive cash awards and will be recognized at a special reception and screening during the NBFF summer festival. In 2010, more than 40 films were entered in the independent film competition.
Films will be critiqued in six categories: long narrative (over an hour), short narrative (under and hour), long documentary (over and hour), short documentary (under and hour), experimental and animation. Filmmakers may enter multiple films. A $40 entry fee is required for each film submitted.
