Call for Mural Artist

Rutgers University seeks a muralist for Spring 2013 semester mural project and college course. Rutgers University - Newark has collaborated with the Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District and the Newark Public Art Program on a Spring Semester 2013 college course that will include the design and production of a large-scale outdoor mural in Newark, NJ. Rutgers seeks an experienced artist to lead a collaborative mural design process with 16 students and an array of local community stakeholders to produce a large scale outdoor mural painting during spring 2013. The senior muralist will also be responsible for assisting course instructors during a portion of class time. The Senior muralist is required to attend an orientation and are required to work 15 hours per week during the months of March and April.

Responsibilities: Implement project according to work plan and schedule, work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders to develop and finalize a design which will be approved by a committee, serve as painting site manager, supervise students and community participants, administer evaluations and assessments, and participate in the dedication ceremony.

Final Design Deadline: March 15
Production Deadline: May 1

Qualifications: Experience
Experience in making large scale graphic or visual art, collaborating with students and community based organizations, and a strong interest in engaging Newark communities in creating public art.
