Christmas Tree Recycling
The City will start picking up discarded Christmas trees starting on Monday, January 9, 2012 through Friday, February 3, 2012. Residents discarding trees should also remove their holiday electrical displays. Mayor Booker urges "all residents to be good neighbors by discarding old trees and maintaining their property."
Director Ziyad said that residents should "Dispose of the tree when it begins dropping needles. Dried-out trees are a fire danger and should not be left in the home, in the garage, or placed outside against the home. Bring outdoor electrical lights inside after the holidays, to prevent hazards, and make them last longer. Electrical displays should also be inspected for frayed wiring and damaged bulbs."
The Division of Recycling is requesting that all residents make an appointment for tree pick-up, by calling (973) 733-6685, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
