Coming this Fall: Comic Con 2015
September 12... the streets of downtown Newark will be occupied by Zombies, costumed Super Heros and evil villains. Planned by Newark resident, Mark D. Boulding, Newark Comic Con will be taking over NJPAC, Robert Treat and Military Park for one exciting fall day.
Details are slowly being released, but Boulding shared some details with NewarkPulse.com. There will be vendors of comic books, video games, clothing, apparel, collectibles, etc. There will be a Cosplay Contest with grand prize of $2000 (similar to a costume contest). There will be an Artist Alley and of course there will be celebrities for autograph/photo sessions, panel discussions and more! Another exciting detail, the day will kick off with a morning Zombie Walk at Military Park.
Contrary to what one might think, the organizer isn't a huge Comic Con attendee. He admits to loving MAD Magazine as a child, but nothing fanatical. Boulding wanted to create a non-typical event for Newark... something that would attract people to come to Newark from afar.
If all the details come together - Newark Comic Con looks like it has the recipe to draw a new market to Newark. Jose Robles, owner of local comic book store, Fortress of Solitude, remarks, "I Love the idea of starting a Comic Convention in Newark...We do have a lot of comic fans in this area and the local colleges. I [look forward to] being dressed in my best Rick Grimes costume..."
