Dark Knight Rises in Newark
The word has gotten out - the next Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" will be taping this Thursday and Friday (November 3rd & 4th) in Newark even though they are using code name "Magnus Rex". Every notice says that all should aware of traffic and street closures.UPDATE: Filming at City Hall on Thursday, Nov 3 and on Friday, Nov 4th - there will be a simulated explosion and train wreck at the Military Park Light Rail stop!
The memo from Magnus Rex includes that the following streets will be affected:
- Raymond Blvd between McCarter and Broad Street
- Commerce Street between McCarter and Broad Street
- Park Place between Raymond Blvd and Centre Street (supposedly this is where trucks will be parked)
- E. Park Street between Park Place and Mulberry Street
- Mulberry Street between Commerce St and E. Park Street
An alert was also sent by NJ Transit - the Newark Light Rail will not operate between Newark Penn Station and Orange Street Station AND between Newark Penn Station and Broad Street Station on both days. Alternate bus service will be provided.
As per patch.com, they mentioned some filming would be done at the large grey building across from Seton Hall Law on Raymond Blvd. with a notice saying to beware the SWAT and officers around the building are just actors. ha!
The city is not incurring any costs and Warner Brothers is to pay Newark $43,500 for use of city hall as well as additional costs for police and fire personnel that will be required.
If you're a fan of Batman, be forewarned... A lot of it is to be taped outside aside from one day at City Hall - so expect a lot of pictures/spoilers to be leaked.
