First Annual Hot Rod & Classic Car Show

First Annual Hot Rod & Classic Car Show

The Mt. Prospect Partnership is hosting their First Annual Hot Rod & Classic Car Show in the Forest Hill section of town, on Sunday, September 8th from 11:00 am till 4:00 pm. The business improvement district is also partnering with the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the event, to help raise awareness and financial support for the fight against breast cancer. The rain date would be September 15th.

The event will also feature a competition, with over $1,000 in cash to be awarded for Best Hot Rod, Best Muscle Car, Best Custom Car, and Best Antique/Nostalgic Vehicle. Event highlights include a special visit by Lou "Batman" Magnifico and his amazing 1960's replica Batmobile, along with live music, food vendors and children's entertainment. Captain America will also make an appearance, along with former NY Giant, Stephen Baker "The Touchdown Maker." Baker was a part of the Giants Super Bowl XXV championship team in 1990.

"We are looking forward to hosting our first annual car show, which will take place on Mt. Prospect Avenue, between Elwood Avenue and Heller Parkway in Newark," noted MPP Executive Director Frank Petolino. "The Partnership has received calls from classic car owners, who once lived in the area and want to display their vehicles in front of particular addresses, and we are excited to welcome them and showcase how the Partnership has helped improve the area." "The preregistration fee of $15 ($20 day of event) is a minimal amount for such a great event, such great prizes and for such a worthy cause," stated Michael Sheehan, President of Mt. Prospect Partnership. "All vehicle participants will receive a t-shirt commemorating this first ever event along with the possibility of winning a share of the $1000 in prize money."

Mr. Petolino said the street will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event, with between 75 and 100 cars expected to be on display.

Staging of the vehicles will start on the day of the event between the hours of 8:00 am and 10:00 am. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. For more information about the event or to register, please contact Frank Petolino (973-481-6200) or Chris Bernardo (973-482-2200). To learn more about other programs and services provided by Mt.
