Free English Courses to Residents this Summer
Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced today that the City of Newark is partnering with Boca Juniors USA and the Legion of Goodwill to offer a FREE basic course in English, starting Friday, June 3, and continuing every week, with three different time slots, at the Ironbound Recreation Center, located at 226 Rome Street in the City’s East Ward. The classes will take place every Friday at 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6:30 p.m.
Space in the class is limited to 25 persons each, and it will be offered free to residents of Newark regardless of immigration status. The course will be taught by Legion of Goodwill educators and will focus on language basics, with a special emphasis on conversational skills. The class’s objective is to assist with linguistic tools necessary to carry out day-to-day interactions.
“Skill in communicating in everyday, basic English, is vital for residents of our City, to achieve their goals of personal independence, gain job opportunities, and become more united with our greater community. I am proud of how our partners have come together to provide this important and free program, and urge residents to take advantage of it,” said Mayor Baraka.
