Global Mala 2011
Global Mala for Peace Project was created in 2007 to unite the yoga community on every continent to form collective practices coinciding with Fall Equinox and UN's International Day of Peace. Debby Kaminsky not only brought the movement to NJ but to Newark (she also started the Newark Yoga Movement). She started it at the Portuguese Sports Club with about 80 people and then expanded to Central High School last year. This year, 200+ people have already RSVP'd for attendance coming from all over the area.
The event is this Sunday, September 18th at Central High School. Here is a sample schedule of the day:
9am-12pm:
- There will speakers including Mayor Booker and Tao Porchon-Lynch, a 93-year old Master Yoga Teacher. Other speakers include Tara Stiles of Slim Calm Sexy Yoga series and more!
- There will be 54 sun salutations and 54 flow yoga poses guided by presenters. 40+ NJ Yoga studios are participating.
- All poses to live music by Dalien/13 Hands and Go-Ray & the Duke.
Kids Mala ignited by Joni Wellness will go on at the same time with drumming and yoga. There will also be a dynamic art project with the Barat Foundation and the Street Doctor will entertain and educate the children.
12-2pm:
Yoga Mart is open and raffle tickets for sale.
Complimentary chair and thai massages.
Entry is with a donation - although a suggested amount is noted, no one will be turned away. Donations to support a number of organizations like: Kula for Karma, Newark Yoga Movement, Newark for Hope & Peace, Barat Foundation, Newark Now and many more. You don't have to be a yoga-enthusiast to attend, but a great way to support the community and share in a day of peace.
