GNEC Winner: Francis Davis Figueroa

If you attend GNEC's Annual Awards Breakfast on Friday, you can meet one of the inspirational winners, Francis Davis Figueroa. After graduating from college in 1992, it took him four years to find a job when he become a sales representative for a wholesale importer/exporter of beauty products. In 1999, Francis opened his first business, the Spa & Trichology Clinic Beauty Salon in Bloomfield, NJ. (Trichology is the branch of dermatology that deals with the scientific study of the health of hair and scalp.)

A year later he expanded his business to distribute a line of products from Spain and moved to Spain to study courses in Trichology. He returned to the US and obtained an exclusive contract for these products and founded F&J Salon Systems in Newark, NJ.

Francis learned of GNEC's Urban Entrepreneurs Development Institute from a friend and signed up. And even with nearly 20 years of experience, Francis found himself doing business plans the right way - the way to get funding and to be looked at seriously. He learned more about ways to grow himself and his business and truly enjoyed his UEDI experience.

He will be honored on Friday, which is the kick off Newark Small Business Week.
