Guns for Jewelry

Jessica Mindich launched the Caliber Collection after meeting Mayor Booker at a conference in 2011. The Caliber Collection is made up of metal from 250 guns and bullet casings seized by the Newark Police Department. Jewelry for a Cause, Mindich's company, proudly donates a portion of the proceeds from each sale to the Gun Buyback Amnesty program in Newark.

The name Caliber was chosen for its two meanings; the caliber of a gun and how the caliber of a city is raised when illegal guns are taken off its streets. Each of the guns was carefully processed and released to Jewelry for a Cause by Newark PD. The guns were shredded at no charge by Sims Metal Management, which has operations in Newark.

The Caliber bangles are marked on the inside with the serial number from the weapon and "Newark." Prices range from $150 from a basic steel cuff to $375 for brass bangle with a diamond - sold online at www.jewelryforacause.net.

Mindich this month presented the city and police officials with a check for $20,000 -- proceeds from six weeks of sales!
