High School Student Opportunities
FREE College Theatre Program
Students: Grades 9-12
Yendor Arts is offering a FREE College Theatre Program for Newark Public School students. The students participate at Marion A. Bolden Center or Drew University. They have the opportunity to write and perform their own plays, work side-by-sdie with professional actors and playwrights while enrolled in the program. Field trips to professional theatre productions and resume building workshops helpt to enhance the scholars' understand of the Arts and deepen their interest in the subject. It's a year-round program which partners with Newark Works to employ participants during the summer. They live on campus for one week during the summer to immerse themselves in the campus life experience and engage in a multitude of liberal arts courses. Advantage Arts (formerly Arts Power) uses pre-developed curriculum that is aligned with Common Core Standards, but also focuses on the non-academic skills needed to help students become as well-rounded as possible in preparation for higher education. We believe that these skills are important for their everyday success especially living in an urban community.
