Independence Park Reopens
The closing of Independence Park a few months ago was met with local outrage due to poor signage and communication to the community at-large, however the park re-opened earlier than expected with smiles and laughter!
The new playground at Independence Park at the corner of Adams Street and Oliver Street includes a variety of age-appropriate equipment for children ages 2-5 years old and ages 5-12 years old. There are regular swings and handicap accessible swings, a mommy and me swing, cargo climbing nets, miniature zip line, slides, rock climbing walls, a drum circle and a variety of musical instruments. There is also a mister that allows children to play in the water during hot weather. A new rubberized safety surface also was installed. In addition, the entrance to the playground has been updated with brick pavers and landscaping.
Local residents, Amy Brown and Geoff Johnson, have started a Friends of Independence Park to bring together the community to engage county and city officials and to program the park. Find them on facebook.
