Kpop Fans Host Clothing Drive for Sandy
Today, the PruCenter will be alive with K-pop (Korean Pop) fans for the world famous Korean band, Big Bang. Adrienne Stanley, a New Jersey resident, is organizing a clothing and blanket drive for victims of Sandy at the PruCenter. She wanted to show that there is more to fans of this music than liking Gangnam Style or organizing flash mobs.
The Big Bang concert will be the largest entertainment event held in the state in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. K-pop Fans will be collecting new or gently used blankets, winter clothing, hats, gloves, and scarves. Fans are coming from all over the country with items, if you look at their facebook page you will see people making mittens and hats and the trunk load of blankets (above) is coming down from New Hampshire. All clothing, blankets, and other goods collected will be donated directly to residents of Newark's North Ward.
Why North Ward? Adrienne's family was born and raised in the North Ward. "I wanted to see items donated from the drive go into the community of the North Ward, due to seeing how much love my mother has for it and the neighboring Wards," says Adrienne.
On Friday, November 9, 2011, the group will be outside the Prudential Center collecting new and gently used blankets, winter clothing, scarves, gloves, and hats from 10am through 3pm. The items will be distributed by community organizer, Tobias Fox, and representatives from local community action groups.
{updated 2pm} drop off is now at Hell's Kitchen Lounge.
