Lenape Path Construction Underway

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. and the Branch Brook Park Alliance announced on Friday, April 25th that the construction of the two-mile Lenape Walking Path in Essex County Branch Brook Park is underway. The path will be made of a rubberized surface and provide park goers with a formal and safe trail through the Northern Division of Branch Brook Park, which extends from Heller Parkway to Bloomfield Avenue.

Landscape architects Rhodeside & Harwell from Newark were commissioned by the Branch Brook Park Alliance to design the pathway. Bismark Construction from Newark was awarded a competitively bid contract for $1,364,000 to perform the construction work. The Essex County Department of Public Works is monitoring the project so delays can be avoided. The project is being funded with grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Horizon Foundation, the Branch Brook Park Alliance and the Essex County Recreation and Open Space Trust Fund, and with an allocation from the Essex County Capital Budget.
