Luis Lopez Field Gets a Facelift
The Luis Lopez Little League Field in Branch Brook Park received a complete facelift that includes a new synthetic grass playing surface, fencing and bleachers. The improvements address wear and tear issues, and provide the community with a modern and safe recreation facility.
The little league field is named after Luis Lopez, a retired educator and founder of the Roberto Clemente Little League. The league has over 1,000 children enrolled in its programs and uses the baseball fields in the Branch Brook Park Stephen N. Adubato Sports Complex for games and practices. Even though the field was rebuilt in 2003, the extensive use has caused wear and tear on the clay and grass playing field. Installing a synthetic grass surface will enable the league and community to maximize use of the field without having to worry about the field wearing down. Among the first events to be hosted on the field was the Essex County Softball Series featuring teams from Syracuse University, Hofstra College, Fordham and others on September 28th.
