Newark Bears Return Better than Ever
The 2012 Newark Bears season begins with opening night on May 17 against the Worcester Tornadoes - preseason games are this Thursday and Friday! The team is under new management with new owners Danielle Dronet and Dr. Douglas Spiel and welcomes a new managing coach Ken Oberkfell and a group of feisty Bears, who are ready to take a bite out of a new season. The newly revamped Bears celebrate 95 years of baseball history!
The Newark Bears season offers something for everyone with great specials and events throughout the season. Take a look at just some of them.
Locker Wars Fridays {May 17, May 25, June 1} - under the concourse, one hour before the game, will be Locker Wars! Six lockers will be filled with goodies and treasures, and fans will have the opportunity to look at the lockers before the game, and can make bids on the items before the third inning and continuing for the rest of the night. The Bears will individually auction each locker's content. Participants must be 21 and older. Winners must be present to claim their prizes and for pictures after the auction.
Catch a foul ball during any Bears home game and keep the ball PLUS, catch and trade a foul ball for a choice of a FREE hot dog, drink or Bears ticket! Bring your catch to the main concession stand to claim your prize.
Broadway Meets Baseball: {May 18} - Before the game join the Bears for a special audition of "Broadway Meets Baseball" where local talents will test their vocal skills in front of Broadway composer Neil Berg to find out who will win a starring role in "Broadway Meets Baseball," set to be performed at Riverfront Stadium in July. Then, wrap up the night by sticking around after the game for a huge fireworks display, our first of the season!
National Lupus Day {May 19} - the team will hold Lupus Night to raise awareness for those suffering from the disease. The Bears very own Coach Tim Raines suffers from Lupus, so come out to support Tim and help them reach their goal.
Launch-A-Ball Competition {May 19, May 26} - the first Launch-a-Ball competition, where four hula hoops are placed in the outfield, and fans get to throw tennis balls from anywhere in the stands to see if they can get it into a hoop. Tennis Balls cost $1 for a chance to win prizes. Prizes may vary, but each night one hoop will bag $500!
Funday Sunday {May 20, May 27} - Two hours before the first pitch, "Father and Child Pitch and Catch" will take place at 11am, sharp. Bring your gloves and baseballs for this great event. ALL kids 12 years and under EAT FREE! Before the game, and every Sunday home game of the season, the Newark Bears Kids Club get to burn some energy while Running the Bases and members receive a mystery gift at EVERY home game when entering the park!
Diamond Dig {May 20} - Finally, adults 18 and older can take to the field for a chance to participate in the Bears newly added Diamond Dig contest, only $5 per chance, sponsored by Andrea's Jeweler. The first to find the hidden item within the allotted time, wins a 1 CARAT DIAMOND or RUBIES!!
