Newark Reads Festival 2012
The Second Annual Newark READS Literacy Festival is a free Newark-centric event geared for children and their families on November 3rd from 9am-5pm. Participants will engage in a range of workshops utilizing arts integrated into literacy methodologies congruent with New Jersey's Common Core Standards in English Language Arts and the Core Curriculum Content Standards in the Visual and Performing Arts. These methodologies will be used to employ enhanced connections between informational text and visual cues to promote the love of reading/writing through the visual and performing arts.
The festival will feature celebrity readers, raffles, book signings, theatrical/poetry performances and workshops, free book giveaways, visual arts activities, theatrical performances and can even apply for library cards.
PCCI will host Newark READS! Literacy Festival in collaboration with Rutgers University Office of Community Partnerships and held at Rutgers School of Law-Newark. Community partners also include the Newark Public Library, Newark Literacy Campaign, United Way of Essex and West Hudson and others. The goal of the Newark READS! Festival is to promote life-long learning in the literary arts, inspire awareness about the importance of literacy at home, and in the community by providing access to resources to children and families.
