Occupy The Schools Launches Monday
A month ago as school came into session, Newark men and women went to schools like Central High School and welcomed students back to school (see story by NJ.com). Tomorrow, Monday October 5 at 7:30am at Central High School, Mayor Ras Baraka and ESPN Reporter Chris Broussard will launch "Occupy the Schools."
Occupy the Schools will engage students on their walk to school with words of encouragement from prominent Newark leaders. In addition, an engaging motivational speaker will address students at the six schools during convocation. Occupy the Schools also aims to engage and inspire caring adults from the greater Newark community to become involved in the lives of young people through motivational interactions, mentorship opportunities, and volunteering in the community.
Partner organizations include: The Newark Chess Club; New Jersey Institute for Social Justice; The K.I.N.G. Movement; Newark Housing Authority; Newark Community Economic Development Corporation; and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson, and Union Counties.
List of schools being engaged:
Barringer High School
