Open Doors 2013 Highlights

We're just a few weeks away from the celebration of Arts in Newark with the annual Open Doors. Below are just a few of the highlights for the 10 day celebration to get you excited for the entire event schedule (which you can now find online)
 

Open Doors HQ and Market Street Convergence.

This year Aferro and Newark Arts Council are activating Market Street with 5+ Locations and transforming hundreds of feet of vacant storefront windows and buildings. Here are some things to look forward to:

- Kick-Off Party: Thursday, Oct 10th 6-9pm at 85 Market Street (HQ)
- Candy Chang's Before I Die Public Art initiative - that has traveled to 20+ countries and now Newark
- 10 solo shows, a large group exhibition, a symposium, an artist food truck, installations and more.
- Plus performances, poetry readings, workshops, screenings and more!

Friday Night Gallery Crawl: Friday, Oct 11th 6-9:30pm

Choose a few locations to visit during the Friday night crawl walking around or visit them all with free shuttle services. There's PLENTY to see including glass blowing demonstrations at Glass Roots, the Animodule Zoo at the Barat Foundation, opening receptions at cWOW, Coffee Cave, Solo(s) Project House, WBGO, LIT Social Justice Center, The Metropolitan, Prospect Firestation Gallery and others, plus spoken word, readings and MORE. Making the World's Largest Monotype Mile Print: Saturday, October 12th

Everyone is asked to participate in the making of the world's largest monotype print and to help break the Guinness Book of World Records. Read more about it here.
 

Creation Nation Art & Peace Parade: Sunday, October 20th

A march for art, peace and the community - organized by the Barat Foundation. The Animodules will roll through downtown paraded with marching bands, performers and much more. See past coverage and photos from a past art parade.

The two weeks of events for Open Doors ends with a Closing Party at Kilkenny Alehouse: Sunday, October 20th 6-8pm
