PATH Approved Increases not so Steep
Today the Board of Governors approved a two-part plan to restore fixcal health to the Port Authority by increasing toll and fare rates but at a lower leverl than originally proposed and demanding agency-wide review and accountability.
The increases approved are such:
- PATH train fares will increase 25cents a year for the next four years
- Tolls for cars using EZ Pass will increase $1.50 in September 2011 and then 75 cents in December and every year from 2012-2015 for a total of $4.50 - rather than the $6 increase proposed.
- Cars paying cash will see the same increase - but will be subject to an additional $2 penalty (rounded up to the nearest whole dollar)
