Sandy Aftermath: Give or Get Help

After a few days of waiting, I finally got the scoop on how to volunteer or get help in town. Please pass on to friends and colleagues.

New Hope Baptist Church

The hub for distribution and even volunteerism in Newark is at the New Hope Baptist Church (106 Sussex Street) in the Central Ward. They are now open 24 hours a day.

Volunteer Time:
Females and Males are needed to put together packages, lift cases of water and possibly help distribute.

Donate items:
If you can gather to donate, they are in need of: Non-perishable items, water, clothing, blankets, warm items: hats, gloves, scarves, diapers, socks, flashlights, batteries. Can be dropped off at the church.

In Need:
If you are in need of items please call the city's non-emergency number 973-733-4311 to provide your info. Or you can stop by the New Hope Baptist church to pick up things in need.

Urban League of Essex County

The Urban League is helping families in need and is in need of help as well. The info for the Urban League is 508 Central Avenue, 973-624-9535 or info@ulec.org

Donate:
The Urban League is accepting food donations, such as canned goods, cereal, milk, sandwiches, dry goods, diapers, etc. as well as financial contributions to help continue their work.

Volunteer:
They are looking for volunteers who can help delivery and distribute food and items.
