In remembrance of the tragedy 10 years ago, many local institutions are hosting 9/11 Events.

9/11 Ten Years After @ NJ PAC

September 9 at 4pm
A panel discussion on 9/11, its aftermath, and lessons learned, featuring former Governor and 9/11 Co-Chairman Thomas H. Kean, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Jane Holl Lute, 9/11 Commissioner and Former Secretary of the Navy John Lehman, and CEO, GTBM, Inc. and 9/11 Widow and Advocate Virginia S. Bauer. Former NJ Attorney General and 9/11 Commission Chief Counsel John Farmer, Jr. will act as moderator. There will be a premiere screening of "State of Reflection," a 30-minute documentary by Star Ledger, musical performance by Tony Award winner Lillias White, poetry reading by NJ Poetry Out Loud Winner Shamsuddin Abdul-Hamid, and photo exhibition in Victoria Theater Lobby.

 

 

 

Newark Fire Department Commemorations @ Newark Museum

September 9 @ 10am
Museum Director and CEO Mary Sue Sweeney Price will introduce the memorial program which includes presentations by Mayor Cory Booker; NFD Director Fateen Zayid; NFD Chief John Centanni; Batallion Chief (Ret) Harry Carter, PhD; and NFD Chaplain Rev. Anthony Forte. According to Deputy Chief (Ret) Ken Marcell, event coordinator for the NFD Historical Association, family members of victims have also been invited to participate. The Fire Department's Piper Band will perform Amazing Grace and God Bless America. Following the ceremony, attendees will be invited to tour the Newark Fire Museum. A piece of steel girder from the WTC is a permanent part of the museum exhibit.

 

 

 

Did Sept 11 Really Change Everything @ Rutgers-Newark

What Happened, What's Next? 9-11 Ten Years On is free and open to the public. Two R-N students and resident assistants, Babatunde Odubekun, Class of 2013, and D. Justin Figueroa, Class of 2013, are filming short, informal interviews of faculty, students and staff on campus, asking them where they were on 9/11 and to describe their memories of 9/11. Their answers are the subject of the film presentation, which will be followed by an open, non-political discussion by a panel and audience members about that day and its impact on their lives.

 

September 11th A Decade Later: Has Everything Changed? @ Rutgers-Newark

Sept 14 @ 2:30pm at Paul Robeson Center
is intended as a "humane exchange of ideas and emotions." All forms of expression, from images to art to music, are welcomed.
