St. Patty’s Parade 2011

St. Patty’s Parade 2011

Tomorrow is Newark's turn to celebrate its Irish Roots. According to the 2009 Community Census, there's nearly 4000 Irish-Americans in Newark. This parade is the 76th Annual Parade and the oldest in the state - this year's theme is the "Second 75 Years."

The Parade will be honoring Archbishop of Newark, Most Reverend John J. Myers as its Grand Marshal, NJ State Bar Association President-elect Susa A. Feeney, esq, as Deputy Grand Marshal and the NJ Army and Air National Guard as recipient of the Parade's Dedication.

The Parade kicks off at 1pm from Mulberry Street in front of PruCenter, past Gateway complex, to NJ PAC, to Central Ave to St. Patrick's Cathedral and ending in Washington Park. Michael Byrne, chairman for the parade, says that the Parade passes some of the great symbols of Newark's past and future - the Prudential Center and NJPAC. "These are two of the greatest modern venues for sports and entertainment and they're right here in Newark; right on the Parade route."
