TEDx comes to NJIT

I'll admit I had no idea what or who TED was and thought I wouldn't be alone - but it seems like I was the person that wasn't in the know. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives.

TEDx has found its way here to Newark. TEDxNJIT is the first ever TEDx event on the New Jersey Insititute of Technology campus. This event was formed in hopes of inspiring those with great ideas to turn dreams into a reality. TEDx is a great forum for those looking to learn and become motivated to spread ideas across campus and the Newark community.

TEDx was brought to NJIT by Kevin Ly (one of the organizers). He grew up watching TED videos and a few years ago noticed TEDx videos and events and found them more personal. "I wanted a forum for people to either give ideas, motivate others to follow on theirs or just have people get ideas from what they hear. The resources available to students and the residents of Newark are plentiful. We have students from surrounding universities registered, as well as professors attending. People love TED/TEDx so that's why I wanted to bring it here."

This year's theme will be Invention to Venture featuring young entrepreneurs, angel investors, as well as NJIT faculty. The event this Friday November 11th from 8:30-1pm. It is SOLD OUT however you will be able to watch the broadcast live at http://www.tedxnjit.com/live.html
