Tyson Gay to Speak to Newark Students
Students at St. Philip's Academy in Newark's Central Ward, are excited to hear from Olympic sprinter, Tyson Gay, about the determination and drive that brought him to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Tyson, who will be in town to promote his participation in the Adidas Grand Prix in May, is the fastest American in history and the 2nd fastest man on earth behind Jamaica's Usain Bolt. As part of the US men's 4x100 relay team, Tyson brought home a silver medal.The world renowned athlete will speak to students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade on the value of making good decisions and the positive impact these decisions can have on the direction of your life.
St. Philip's students cheered for Tyson Gay during the Olympic trials and the summer games, writing letters of support and sending along a "good luck" banner. Tyson responded on the school's facebook page, saying: "Shout out to the students at St. Philip's Academy in Newark. Thanks for those letters. Means a lot to me to know you are pulling for me this year!"
