Visions Academy Volunteers for Habitat
Seniors at Visions Academy Charter High School are learning a lesson in community service. More than 100 students volunteered their morning to clear overgrown weeds and brush from a lot in anticipation for Habitat for Humanity's Harmony Pointe community."The students came in and they just started ripping out the weeds," said twelfth grade teacher Tiameka Whitehead. Within two hours the students were able to clear 20 percent of the main lot. "We can actually see the grass now," said Whitehead.
Harmony Pointe is a planned 23-unit affordable housing complex which will be located on or around Hawthorne Avenue in Newark's South Ward. The homes will be two and three bedroom condominium style units.
