Washington Park Little Free Library
This week, you will find a new addition to Washington Park. It's called Little Free Library - a small wooden box full of books - you can "Take a Book, Leave a Book."The Little Free Library was installed by the Newark Downtown District. Hundreds of books ranging from children's books to adult and even college course books were donated and dropped off in lobbies in the Gateway.
The Little Free Library was started in 2009 in Hudson, Wisconsin. A former teacher created a model school house and filled it with books. The mission is to promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges world wide. The goal was to build 2,510 Little Free Libraries, which was reached in August 2012 and by January 2014, over 10,000 have been registered!
This was the first one in Newark, but look for more to come. Check out more info at littlefreelibrary.org
